The time needed to serve legal documents in Florida depends on the deadline, service address, recipient’s availability, access conditions, and the service priority you select. A process server may complete an assignment on the first attempt, but no professional can guarantee when a particular person will be found.

For Orange and Osceola County assignments, 9th Circuit Process Serving offers standard, rush and same-day options. Review our current starting rates and service speeds before submitting.

Typical first-attempt timelines

These timeframes describe the first attempt, not guaranteed completion. The recipient may be away, the address may be incorrect, or the location may restrict access.

What can delay service?

Incomplete addresses, missing unit numbers, gated communities, secured office buildings, inaccurate work information, and short court deadlines can all affect an assignment. A recipient who has moved or whose schedule is unknown may require additional research or attempts.

Provide the recipient’s complete name, apartment or suite number, gate instructions, employer information, known schedule, vehicle description, and any lawful identifying details that may help confirm the correct person.

How many attempts are made?

There is no single attempt count that fits every Florida case. The required effort depends on the document, deadline, court instructions, and facts encountered at the address. Our local service options include up to five diligent attempts when appropriate, often on different days or at practical times.

Can service be completed before a hearing?

Submit documents as early as possible. Court rules and case-specific instructions may control how many days before a hearing service must be completed. A rush fee does not change a legal deadline or guarantee successful service. If time is short, contact your attorney or the issuing court about the applicable requirements.
